About the Organisation

Diabetes Australia was established in 1984 and is the national body for people affected by all types of diabetes and those at risk. Diabetes Australia works in partnership with diabetes health professionals and researchers, and is committed to reducing the impact of diabetes on the Australian community. 

In collaboration with state and territory diabetes organisations and through the administration of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS), Diabetes Australia provides practical assistance, information and subsidised products to 1.2 million Australians with diabetes. 

About the Opportunity

Diabetes Australia has an opportunity for a Finance Manager to join their dynamic team in Canberra, ACT, on a full-time basis. Reporting to the General Manager - Corporate Services, you will be responsible for leading a team of four, whilst managing the financial reporting, management accounting, and all other financial activities for Diabetes Australia.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing financial and management reports and discussing key outcomes with Management;
  • Overseeing the production of financial accounts;
  • Preparing the annual budget and revising forecasts periodically;
  • Managing taxation obligations;
  • Overseeing the payroll function and human resource policies and procedures;
  • Controlling the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions;
  • Providing in-house technical accounting and taxation advice;
  • Coordinating all arrangements for annual audits, and
  • Monitoring corporate financial policies and procedures and ensuring an appropriate system of financial and accounting controls is maintained.

Diabetes Australia are seeking a CA or CPA qualified accountant, who has extensive experience in one or many of the following sectors: government, medium to large commercial environments and not for profit. A strong understanding of the preparation and management of budgets, alongside the ability to manage payroll, will be paramount to your success in this position.

You'll have a high level of computer literacy alongside a willingness to build upon this knowledge, with the ability to use Microsoft Excel in order to analyse and communicate technical data to a wide range of audiences. Candidates with experience in taxation requirements for not-for-profit organisations will be viewed favourably. 

Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will ensure you can effectively build and maintain working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. A hands-on, driven approach coupled with a strong eye for detail will ensure you flourish within this role.

You’ll have strong management experience, with the ability to effectively oversee and lead a small team, providing ongoing mentoring, advice and performance management.
