About the Opportunity
Junee Shire Council has a truly unique and exciting opportunity available in a newly created position of Director Community and Business who will lead a professional, multidisciplinary team based in Junee, NSW.
The Director Community and Business is responsible for 3 direct reports and a greater team of 15, as well as being the touch-point between the organisation and the community it serves.
Reporting to the General Manager, your main responsibilities will involve the management and execution of the Community Strategic Plan in conjunction with overseeing and managing the regulatory practices within the town planning and building sector.
You will be responsible for aligning Council's activities with the communities values and expectations.
In this role, you will share your expertise and experience with the Executive Team and elected Council, as well as your team members, to ensure each is empowered with the necessary knowledge and skills to execute their role effectively within community development and town planning strategies.
Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):
- Leading a diverse team and creating a true teamwork culture;
- Managing the town planning and building regulations sector;
- Establishing, developing and improving community stakeholder relationships; and
- Developing and executing strategies and services to enhance community development.
The Council is looking for a self-motivated and community-focused leader to step into this role and own it, with the aim of leading and championing the Community and Business sector for the betterment of Junee. You will work within areas such as; Cultural and Recreation Management, Regulatory Services, Asset Management, Environmental Management and Protection, with an internal emphasis towards Enterprise Risk Management.
The successful candidate will ideally be degree qualified in Town Planning and / or Community Development, with previous local government experience in a related role, preferrably within NSW. Candidates with demonstrated, Director-level experience leading large teams within either Public Health, Town Planning or Building Control will be held in high regard.
Strong interpersonal communication and resolution management skills will be essential for your success in this position, as you help support and drive a period of cultural change in the organisation. You will be a proactive Director, willing to roll up your sleeves and execute the work, as well as provide strategic direction to your staff.
You will be innovative and have the ability to implement strategies whilst managing competing interests. You will be able to demonstrate what and how you have contributed to community-minded organisations, boards and committees; you are a fearless decision maker and one who has grown as a result of your past decisions.
