About the Opportunities

drummond street now has 3 opportunities for full-time Child and Family Practitioners to join their Family Services team in Melbourne:

  • Child and Family Practitioner - Experience in Perinatal, Early Years, and Child Mental Health (Western Region, Melbourne)
  • Child and Family Practitioner - Experience in Family Violence, Child Trauma and Mental Health (Western Region, Melbourne)
  • Queerspace Practitioner - Experience in Child and Adolescent LGBTQI Mental Health (Organisation wide - outreaching to sites)

Reporting to the Family Services Manager, you will provide high quality, child and family focused prevention and intervention supports to families with children dealing with, or at risk of developing, child and adolescent mental health issues.

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Be eligible to deliver child ATAPS with full registration as a psychologist or mental health social worker, and experience providing evidence-based psychological interventions to children;
  • Have a genuine interest and commitment to working with LGBTIQ, refugee and CaLD and other high risk cohorts;
  • Have considerable experience and understanding of trauma informed practice models in working with children and their families; and
  • Have a demonstrated knowledge and application of a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches as well as experience supporting complex cases such as mental health, family violence, and substance abuse issues. 

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Evidence-based psychological interventions under ATAPS and Better Access;
  • Child-focused, whole of family prevention and early intervention services and programs under the Family Mental Health Support Service and Family and Relationship Service and other relevant funding streams;
  • Providing centre based and outreach support to reduce risk and increase protective factors for children, young people, and their families;
  • Conducting bio-psycho-social assessments of family-based risk and protective factors associated with child mental health outcomes;
  • Utilising evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies that are holistic and family centred; and
  • Asserting engagement of client cohorts that have specific needs, including aboriginal families, emerging CaLD communities and greater risk cohorts, such as LGBTIQ.

You will also demonstrate a positive, creative and collaborative approach to the delivery of support services.
