About the Opportunity

Due to an internal promotion, Mid-Western Regional Council now have an exciting opportunity for a Building Inspector (Health and Safety) to join their team in Mudgee, NSW, on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Manager, Health and Building, you will be primarily responsible for the provision of quality health and building services to the Mid-Western Regional Council and residents. 

Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Undertaking duties as the Principle Certifying Authority applicable to the level of accreditation approved by the BPB;
  • Providing leadership for the health and building team, consistent with the Workplace Environment Statement, legislative requirements, Council policies and Council's Code of Conduct;
  • Representing Council at meetings and meeting with members of the public to effectively guide development within the region and achieve good quality building outcomes;
  • Co-ordinating programs and undertaking inspections as required to ensure that Council meets its obligations regarding the safe handling of food, on-site disposal of waste and other legislative requirements; and
  • Meeting the deadlines associated with the assessment of applications and other statutory certificates and applications as required.

To be successful in this position you must hold A2 Accreditation (or higher), a current, open driver's license and a Workcover White Card or the willingness to obtain. You will have relevant tertiary qualifications in Health and Building or related field and proven industry experience in a similar type position. This role would be perfect for a licenced builder who is looking to put down the tools and make a change in their career path, or for an experienced building inspector looking to take the next step in their career.

Council are looking for someone who is resilient, with the ability to be calm under pressure. As a confident operator, you will have no problem utilising strong communication skills, engaging with internal and external stakeholders and backing your decisions, whilst maintaining integrity at all times.
