About the Opportunity
FFA now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Training Advisor to join their team in Honiara, in the Solomon Islands, on a full-time basis. This appointment is made on a three-year term and may be renewable at this time.
Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, this is a very busy role supporting FFA and SPC to coordinate and organise effective and efficient delivery of the NZ-funded Fisheries Training and other training programmes for the organisation, as required. The primary focus of these programmes is to ensure Pacific Islanders in member countries meet Government and private sector standards and requirements.
Some of your over-arching responsibilities will include:
- Assist and coordinate existing FFA training programmes and, as appropriate, organise further FFA engagement in accredited fisheries training and other donor-funded fisheries training programmes and activities;
- Monitor, analyse and report on FFA training activities and sector requirements;
- Efficient and effective administration, management and reporting of FFA and SPC’s contracted responsibilities to the NZAID funded Pacific Regional Fisheries Training (PRFT) programme;
- Budgeting and reporting, including providing advice and recommendations on training project design, mid-term evaluation and appraisals.
To be successful in this position you will have relevant qualifications in Education, Training or Human Resource Management, ideally in the area of vocational education. Any technical exposure to natural resources management or resource economics would be beneficial, but is not mandatory.
FFA is looking for 'training specialists' - candidates with extensive experience in designing and developing training programmes and the ability to contextualise their training expertise into a fisheries context. You will have the proven ability to monitor and evaluate training courses and/or programmes and strong project management skills, with specific focus on training and development areas, ideally at a regional level.
This is a very busy position requiring someone with strong written and verbal communication skills, who can liaise confidently with stakeholders from various cultural and professional backgrounds and quickly build relationships with counterparts at relevant tertiary institutions. Candidates with a broad understanding of the role of vocational training and education within the economic development of the Pacific Islands region, will be highly regarded.
Please Note: This role requires intermittent travel throughout the Pacific region.
About the Benefits
The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is offering the successful candidate a competitive remuneration package, TAX FREE for citizens of most countries, commensurate with skills and experience.
You will also have superannuation paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or as an additional cash supplement. FFA reimburses all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and dependents. Insurance coverage is also provided for personal accident, life, medical & repatriation.
Education for dependent children will be reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is educated overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year.
Accommodation assistance is also available.
Additionally, relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara. Annual airfares back to your country of repatriation will be provided, and a repatriation allowance of 2 weeks’ base salary on return to home-base at the end of your contract. There is also a retention incentive of 21% of your base salary which will be paid on the completion of your three-year contract.
On top of all this, you will have access to 6 weeks of annual leave each year, giving you plenty of time to explore this stunning part of the world!
