About the Organisation

Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation (MPREC) is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers enterprise, training, and community services to Indigenous communities in the Murdi Paaki Region, Western NSW.  Their vision is that of continuous improvement in the social fabric and living standards of Western NSW residents, many of whom are critically disadvantaged by remoteness.

The corporation has five primary objectives:

  • Develop and implement effective employment and accredited training strategies;
  • Develop enterprise projects and facilitate business development;
  • Assist in the provision of essential social services to Indigenous Australians;
  • Nurture and mentor Indigenous Youth through training, leadership development & career pathways; and

About the Opportunity

MPREC has an exciting opportunity for an Employment Officer (New Careers for Aboriginal People – NCAP) to join the team in Dubbo, NSW, on a full-time basis. This position will run until 30th June 2017, at which point funding will determine whether the role may continue.

Reporting to the Employment Manager, you will assist Aboriginal people to overcome barriers in education, training, and employment using an existing client base, while also working to generate new business.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Providing assistance to jobseekers in the areas of career planning, resume writing, interview preparation, and job referrals;
  • Identifying employment opportunities by canvassing employers;
  • Conducting job placement monitoring and mentoring;
  • Establishing contacts with relevant government agencies that provide education, training & employment assistance;
  • Promoting the NCAP program to the Aboriginal community using electronic & print media; and
  • Assisting the Sponsor Organisation with the preparation of budgets & reports;

The successful candidate will be Aboriginal identified (this position is identified and exempted under section 21 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1977), with a demonstrated knowledge of the employment, training, and recruitment sectors  No formal qualifications are required, though any Certificate-level qualifications in training and development will be welcome.

You must be a good communicator, with strong networking skills and the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders. You will also feel confident in training and supervising staff, and managing programs and projects. 

You will have the ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team, and will be competent working with basic computer systems and programs. A knowledge of MPREC services would be highly regarded, and above all you will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual committed to improving people’s circumstance.

Please note: Although most of your work will be based at the Dubbo office, some travel will be required, and as such you will need to hold a current Driver’s License.
