drummond street has played a crucial role providing specialist support to members of the LGBTQI community for over thirty years through its Queerspace program.

About the Opportunity

drummond street now has a fantastic opportunity for a part-time (0.4 FTE) Child and Family Practitioner to deliver psychological interventions to children and their families under ATAPS and Better Access programs.

Joining the Family Services team in Northern Melbourne, you will actively contribute to the mission, objectives, values and culture of the organization through the provision of high quality support and practice. 

Key responsibilities of this pivotal role include:

  • Assessing risk and protective factors using appropriate measures and clinical tools;
  • Developing and implementing case plans for children (0-12yrs) in collaboration with the client and their family;
  • Providing appropriate referrals and working closely with cross-disciplinary teams to facilitate treatments, programs and achieve positive outcomes;   
  • Completing all documentation and participating in case review meetings; and  
  • Developing and delivering training to community members, partners and broader sector.  

To qualify, you will be a registered Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist or Mental Health Social Worker. With working knowledge of the determinants of mental health and high-level counselling skills, the successful candidate will also have two years' experience providing psychologist interventions to children and their families under the Better Access and/or ATAPS program. A valid Medicare Provider Number is also required.

You will have a strong knowledge and experience in working with refugee families, with considerable experience and understanding of trauma informed practice models in working with children and their families.
