About the Opportunity

Brazeau County has an exciting opportunity for an Agriculture Fieldman to join our team in Drayton Valley, Alberta. In this role you will provide leadership and direction in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs and services related to agriculture while ensuring access to high quality agricultural programs, services, and resources that address community needs. You will also lead the delivery of recreation services and facilities that enhance quality of life and promote a positive public image for Brazeau County.

Your regular responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating the day-to-day operation of the Agriculture department to achieve the department's mission and goals
  • Developing and implementing a process for preparation of annual capital and operating budgets for all facilities
  • Preparing and presenting a monthly report to the Director of Community Services and Council regarding agriculture and recreation services, activity, and issues
  • Monitoring controls and authorizing spending within the limits of the approved budget
  • Facilitating the development and implementation of sustainable programs and services related to agriculture and recreation that will provide a positive public image and desirable quality of life in Brazeau County
  • Responding to public inquiries, media requests for information, or complaints with regard to department activities while following approved policy and procedure
  • Establishing and maintaining a system and procedures to ensure agriculture programs and related equipment and facilities may be accessed and used by the public with optimum effectiveness and efficiency

Our ideal candidate will have a university degree or diploma related to Agriculture or Business and 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience in agriculture and/or recreation programs or facilities management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will also possess the following: 

  • A valid and current Pesticide Applicators License (Industrial/Agriculture/and or Landscaping)
  • A.A.A.F. (The Association of Alberta Agriculture Fieldmen) membership
  • Form 8 under the Pest Control Act
  • A valid class 5 Driver's License

You will succeed in this truly unique role if you are a proactive self-starter with strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Strong planning and organizational skills are essential, as is proficiency in computer applications used for business.
