About the Organisation

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation's main purpose is to improve the health and wellbeing of the people in the region east of Katherine in the Northern Territory using a holistic approach that includes a high standard of medical care, the promotion of social justice and the overcoming of the sickness that affects so many people in the region. This is done through the organisation's health clinics and health education, mixing together traditional Indigenous culture and the best of mainstream medicine.

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation works in partnership with Northern Territory PHN (NT PHN), who provide support services to health professionals and organisation across the Northern Territory. NT PHN offers support and assistance to eligible nurses and allied health professionals who are relocating the to the NT for the purposes of employment.

Most importantly, the Sunrise approach involves community people taking part in controlling their own health. Everything from financial management and governance, staff selection and service delivery priorities are directed by the organisation's Aboriginal Board and Community Health Committees. About the Opportunity

Sunrise Health Service has an extremely rewarding opportunity for a Women's Health Coordinator to join their dedicated, multidisciplinary team in Katherine, on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Population Health Program Manager, this role will be responsible for the effective delivery of programs in the areas of growth & development and promotion of healthy lifestyle choices including;

  • Antenatal and postnatal midwifery care;
  • Women’s health Checks;
  • Population health programs such as breast screening;
  • Sexual health;
  • Mothers and babies programs including involvement in 0-5yo services and programs; and
  • Population level programs.

To be considered, you must be a Registered Nurse and Midwife, and be registered (or eligible for registration) with the AHPRA, combined with recent experience in the delivery of antenatal, postnatal, and other women’s health care in a cross-cultural context. 

The ideal candidate will currently hold or be in the process of acquiring a Women’s Health (i.e. Family Planning) or Post Graduate Public Health qualification and have experience within the public health or primary health care sector. You will also possess a clear understanding of the social determinates in relation to a remote Aboriginal community setting.

Sunrise Health Service is seeking adaptable and flexible individuals who can display the initiative, discretion and cultural sensitivity needed to support and drive the organisation's objectives and values. The ability to communicate and participate effectively within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary health team will be required.

This role will see you living and working in remote communities Monday to Thursday, where no two days will be the same.

Candidates who are open to change, accepting of Aboriginal people, comfortable living in a remote environment and who are willing to learn the ways of the people will be best suited to this position.

The successful candidates must be willing to undergo a Police Check and a Working With Children Check, as well as having completed or be willing to complete an About Giving Vaccines Course.

A manual driver's licence is essential and it would be advantageous to have experience with 4WD vehicles and travelling in light aircrafts.
