About the Opportunity

Harbour City Ferries have an opportunity for a Technical Superintendent to join their team based in Sydney, on a full-time basis. This highly varied role will see you responsible for developing and maintaining a life cycle Technical Maintenance Plan (TMP) for prescribed vessels, vessel systems and approve all planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs. 

Some of your key responsibilities will include;

  • Ensuring that the Technical Maintenance Plan scheduling logic is accurately recorded into the Works Management System;
  • Reviewing and assessing all work requests forwarded by engineers, masters and other stakeholders for maintenance and repairs;
  • Organising weekly maintenance planning – confer weekly with other Technical Superintendents, the Asset Manager, Maintenance Managers and Maintenance Planners to jointly review work orders and to plan, forecast and appropriately schedule maintenance tasks across the fleet;
  • Managing prescribed vessel and vessel system upgrades (e.g. dockings, engine replacement), modifications and refurbishments within a project management framework; and
  • Providing specialist engineering expertise and advice in budgetary planning, preparations and managing budgets in coordination with the Finance Department.
  • Manage and report on the developed budget for the relevant class of vessel
  • Manage vessel defects to maintain targeted availability.

The successful candidate will hold degree qualifications in Marine Engineering or a Class 1 or Class 2 certificate of competency in Marine Engineering. You’ll have extensive experience in marine engineering, naval architecture, or shipyard maintenance, alongside experience in vessel operation, maintenance, and repairs.

A demonstrated understanding of Marine Safety legislation and regulations will be key to your success in this position. You’ll have exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, as well as strong computer literacy.
