About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) now has a unique opportunity for a CDP Builder Trainer to join the Community Development Program team based in Beswick, NT on a full-time basis.  

The newly appointed CDP Builder Trainer will report directly to the CDP Regional Manager, and have responsibility for organising, preparing, facilitating, monitoring and documenting construction projects and related training activities of job seekers under the Program. You will mentor and encourage job seekers where necessary to assist them in overcoming individual barriers to education and employment. 

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying projects which will aid community and job seeker development;
  • Scoping, planning and considering appropriateness of proposed building projects;
  • Training job seekers to develop appropriate skills; and
  • Being a leader in the maintenance of safe work practices in accord with the RGRC WH&S policies and procedures. 

To be successful in this position you must have a trade qualification with significant experience working as a tradesperson in a construction industry skilled area. You will have demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to manage, control and coordinate a team and team resources effectively, whilst still ensuring goals and objectives are met. 

An excellent communicator, you will be comfortable in responding to moderately complex enquiries that require detailed and careful explanation and negotiate and/or mediate issues between parties to effectively resolve problems.

Importantly, you’ll have an understanding and genuine interest in Indigenous culture, with the ability to liaise with Indigenous community members in a culturally sensitive manner. 

Please note: You may be required to drive considerable distances in the course of your duties in this role and must possess a current Class C Drivers Licence with a manual driving capacity.

Prior to employment with Roper Gulf Regional Council you must:

  • Hold a current Northern Territory 'C' class manual driver's licence;
  • Undertake a new criminal history check at commencement of employment with RGRC;
  • At commencement of employment hold a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (OCHRE Card) or provide an application receipt for an exemption to be approved by SAFE NT prior to commencing; and
  • Be an Australian Resident or provide the current, relevant Visa to work within Australia.
