About the Organisation

Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation (MPREC), established August 2003, is a government funded not-for-profit organisation with a primary objective of providing Indigenous communities with relevant and effective services.

The corporation has five primary objectives (driven by its constitution). These include:

  • Development and implementation of effective employment strategies;
  • Enterprise projects and business development and associated consultancy services;
  • Delivery of accredited training;
  • Development and implementation of community programs and services; and
  • Provision of CDP and similar services.

MPREC delivers the Community Development Program (CDP) across two western NSW regions, Far West and Upper Darling. CDP is delivered throughout communities including Bourke, Brewarrina, Cobar, Goodooga, Murrin Bridge, Engonnia, Weilmoringle, Ivanhoe, Wilcannia, Menindee, Tibooburra and White Cliffs.

About the Opportunity

MPREC now has an exciting opportunity for proactive Senior Manager - Employment Services to join their team based in Bourke, servicing the Cobar, Bourke, Brewarrina, Menindee, Wilcania and Goodooga region in NSW.  

Reporting directly to the CEO this is an executive level position with overarching responsibility for the effective delivery of the following MPREC programs in the Upper Darling and Far West Regions:

  • Community Development Program (CDP)
  • New Careers for Aboriginal People
  • Aboriginal Enterprise Development
  • Centrelink Services

In addition, with a geographically diverse team of 100+ direct reports, there is a large leadership component to this position, with ongoing staff management, training, development and mentoring required on a daily basis. 

To manage these programs effectively and efficiently, the Employment Services Manager will need the following core competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of the employment services sector and an alignment with MPREC’s values and goals;
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent team leadership skills with the ability to motivate and provide an environment that promotes innovation;
  • Demonstrated strategic and implementation planning skills and to operate in a budget-led framework; and
  • Ability to meet deadlines, high-level organisational skills and the ability to balance multiple and conflicting priorities.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and experience in financial budgeting will also be highly regarded.

Candidates with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues facing Aboriginal people, and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people, are strongly encouraged to apply. Similarly, candidates with previous NGO experience and/or an awareness of Cultural Heritage and Language Programs will be held in high regard.    

It is important to note that the successful candidate will be required to live in the community and travel regularly within the Murdi Paaki region. As such, a current and unencumbered NSW Driver's Licence in mandatory. 

To ensure you get settled into the role, you will be welcomed into the business with a significant handover period. To help facilitate an easy and smooth move for candidates relocating from outside of the immediate area, relocation assistance may be negotiated.
