About Flinders Island Aboriginal Association

Flinders Island Aboriginal Association Inc. (FIAAI) has been operating for over 30 years and is a small, community controlled Aboriginal service that provides health services, aged care and housing along with a number of other programs primarily funded by the Commonwealth.

Beyond the green rolling hills of Flinders Island, there's also a world of natural wonders to explore, from the pristine coastline to the rugged pink and grey granite mountain ranges of the Strzelecki National Park, not to mention plants and animals found nowhere else on earth. There's plenty of good quality produce to enjoy with locally grown meats, freshly caught seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables and wines, as well as art and craft made from locally-sourced materials.

Only 35 minutes from Launceston, and 60 minutes from Melbourne, Flinders Island has regular air services to and from both locations, providing you with the best of both worlds.

About the Opportunity

FIAAI has an opportunity for a full-time Community Nurse Manager based on the beautiful Flinders Island.

Reporting the Chief Executive officer, you will work with a talented, multi-disciplinary team to develop, deliver and manage FIAAI’s primary health care including aged care. The role includes clinical and home-based nursing, coordination of client care, health assessments and promotion activities and associated administrative, management and reporting responsibilities.

Key responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintaining a holistic approach to the planning and delivery of health care which recognises the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and environmental aspects of the individual and the community;
  • Leading the Health Team in continuous quality improvement activities and accreditation;
  • Supporting and developing staff; and
  • Fostering teamwork between staff and maintain effective working relationships between staff, committee and the community.

The successful applicant will be a Registered Nurse, with an understanding of primary health care principals and their application in a remote community setting. Although previous leadership will be highly desirable, it is not a prerequisite of this role. More importantly, you will be confident in your ability to step-up into a management position.

You will demonstrate high-level communication skills, enabling you to effectively engage with patients from a variety of backgrounds. Your maturity and ability to self-manage, alongside your succinct decision-making skills will promote effective teamwork and leadership within this role.

Above all, you will have a demonstrated awareness and respect to the cultural needs of these communities and a willingness to continue to learn and develop this understanding.
