Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is one of the largest pathology practices in Australia, providing comprehensive services to patients and doctors over a geographic area throughout Queensland and New South Wales and employing more than 2000 people.
Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology services the Brisbane metropolitan area and regional areas extending as far north as Cairns and south to Coffs Harbour.
Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Scientist/Technician to work in the Molecular Pathology Department of the Bowen Hills Laboratory.
The main aim of this varied role is to perform a wide variety of DNA and RNA extraction and PCR amplification/detection techniques used for Molecular Microbiology and Molecular Genetics testing. The successful applicant will gain experience primarily in Molecular Microbiology and to a lesser degree Molecular Genetics.
To be successful in this role, you'll have a tertiary degree in a relevant area of study from a recognised tertiary institution. Prior experience in molecular biology techniques including PCR assay set up and operation of instruments for DNA/RNA extraction, liquid handling robots and real time PCR will be advantageous.
You'll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a demonstrated ability to prioritise your workload and work accurately and efficiently. You will also possess a strong commitment to laboratory turnaround times and the ability to perform several tasks concurrently without error.
The successful applicant will be expected to work a variety of weekday shifts, including weekend work and public holidays as required. Currently shift start times vary between the hours of 6am and 12 midday as assigned to the various testing rosters. You'll also have the ability to work both autonomously and as a team member in this busy department.
