About the Opportunity

Briggs & Stratton has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Purchasing Officer to join their organisation in Moorebank, Sydney, NSW.

Reporting to the Supply Manager Manufactured Goods, this pivotal role is responsible for proactively managing the purchase and supply of assigned components/products, supporting the team by coordinating operations and systematically maintaining information systems. 

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Maintaining all relevant records in SAP, including Master data, PO creation, price lists, delivery information;
  • Prepare and review supplier capacity plans and effectively communicate to the suppliers to ensure timely order fulfilment;
  • Managing communication with the supplier in regards to new/ modified drawings of components/ products;
  • Collecting and preparing data for monthly supplier performance review of the designated suppliers;
  • Managing and maintaining clear communication in regards to complaints and financial settlement with the suppliers; and
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting and analysis of assigned KPIs.

To be considered for this role you'll be able to demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of the principals and practices of buying/ purchasing, as well as solid experience base with ERP systems (SAP preferred). Previous experience with, or an understanding of the manufacturing processes would be advantageous but it will be your high attention to detail that will ensure your success in this role. 

Briggs & Stratton is seeking a self-motivated individual with sharp negotiation skills and an ability to develop and manage excellent relationships with suppliers; therefore you will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to confidently liaise with staff and suppliers within Australia, China and the USA. 

It is important that you be able to work autonomously and be able to complete tasks without supervision.  However, it is also necessary to be able to follow instructions and stay within company guidelines in order to ensure business goals are met. You will have experience managing inventory and the coordination of orders, with the ability to prioritise conflicting demands. 

Strong communication skills are essential, as you will need to liaise with individuals from various backgrounds and inter-departmentally through the organisation. Intermediate computer skills are also required, including knowledge of and experience with Gmail, Microsoft Excel and Office.
