About the Organisation

The West Daly Regional Council commenced operation on July 1st, 2014, in response to an identified need to present a stronger voice and greater control over the delivery of services in the West Daly area. The new council entity covers the Wadeye-Peppimenarti-Palumpa areas and exists to serve and strengthen the community through the laws, policies and programs of Councils and the Northern Territory Government.

About the Opportunity

West Daly Regional Council has a highly rewarding opportunity for a Manager Aged Care to lead their aged care team based Wadeye, NT on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Community Services Manager, you will be responsible for managing the aged care programs and the Thamarrurr Aged Care Centre in Wadeye. You will work with the West Daly Regional Council to assist in the development and delivery of culturally appropriate services to all clients. This will enable the community to provide a range of services that are able to respond to the individual needs of the clients and to assist and support family and other community members to care for them.

More specifically, your duties will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Managing the day to day running of the centre including administration, budget management, financial management and staff management;
  • Seeking funding from funding agencies including liaising with funding bodies to ensure all funding criteria are met;
  • Conducting ongoing review & periodic evaluation of the program in terms of outcomes for clients, unmet needs & financial performance;
  • Developing an operational plan, based on assessed needs that clearly defines the proposed activities and identifies training activities for the service;
  • Developing flexible and appropriate outreach aged care services that meet the needs of indigenous residents;
  • Developing and implement a policy manual for the service which incorporates its philosophy, principles and standard operating procedures;
  • Supporting maximum involvement by family and community members in the care and support of the aged; and
  • Advocating for the aged and disabled to ensure their needs are met.

To be considered for this role you will have relevant qualifications backed by experience working in the aged care sector. Ideally, this experience will be with a similar organisation. Additionally, a medication administration qualification, as well as a current first aid certificate, are essential for this position.

As an effective leader, you will have the ability to train, motivate, supervise and empower staff to deliver the best outcomes for the clients under their care. Strong administrative, financial and budgetary skills will be required.

You will have a solid understanding of Aboriginal tradition and culture particularly as it relates to relationships, protocol and appropriate behaviour, coupled with an understanding of and commitment to indigenous specific service delivery.

A current national police clearance, Ochre Card and a valid Northern Territory driver's licence are required for this position.
