About the Opportunity

Clearwater County has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Regional Waste Operations to join our team in Clearwater County, Alberta on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Director, Public works, you will oversee the municipal solid waste management programs and plans. You will also update community stakeholders on planning recommendations, operations, budgets, and programs. 

Working both in our office and in the field, you will tour and inspect waste management facilities, collect samples and/or information, and also train new staff on varying equipment and associated vehicles.

Our ideal candidate will have a diploma or degree in a related discipline such as Waste Management, Environmental Management, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering. Applicants with an equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered. 

In order to qualify for this role, you will have:

  • A valid Municipal Waste Management Facility Operator Certification from Alberta Environment (either Class II Municipal Landfill, Category A over 50,000 tonnes/year or Class I Composting Facility Category B 500 to 20,000 tonnes/year)
  • A clean Drivers’ Abstract (Class 3 with Air Brake is preferred)
  • A collaborative management style
  • Strategic planning, time management, and organization skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • A high degree of computer literacy skills including CAD programs, Micro Station, GPS pathfinder software, data bases, and Microsoft Excel and Word (Geoware and ArcGIS Explorer are assets)
  • Strong problem solving and research skills

You will also have previous supervisory/management experience and be a member of ASET or APEGA, or have the ability to obtain membership. 

Above all, you will have an interest in safety and conservation and the environment. You will also need to have an awareness of sustainability issues concerning the organization and management of waste disposal, collection, and recycling facilities and about waste prevention.
