About the Organisation

Childrenfirst is a community-based not for profit organisation consisting of 7 Children's Centres and 7 Family Support Services. The organisation is dedicated to the education, nurture and care of children in their early years.

Originally established as far back as 1948, the organisation has grown and been redefined over the years, Childrenfirst now manages over $8M of service provision in the Blacktown area and employs over 150 staff. Childrenfirst has 52 first languages among our staff and 26 amongst our 1800+ children and families.

About the Opportunity

Childrenfirst now has an exciting opportunity for a can-do Centre Cook to join their team based in Blacktown, NSW on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Cook is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the centre kitchen including the planning and provision of quality, nutritional meals for all children attending the centre. Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Ensuring accurate dietary and health records are kept for all children;
  • Develop and implement healthy and nutritious menus, which are culturally and dietary relevant for all children;
  • Ensure the kitchen, food storage and preparations areas are maintained at a high level of safety and hygiene;
  • Keeping an awareness of budgets relating to all areas of the kitchen with association to food, equipment and resources purchasing; and
  • Providing catering for corporate functions, professional development days, etc as required.

To be successful in this position you will possess the following:

  • Certificate in Food Handling;
  • Certificate in Menu Planning and Food Safety;
  • Current First Aid Certificate, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Training (and or willingness to obtain);
  • Current Working with Children Check Number (or willingness to obtain); and
  • Knowledge of relevant food health and safety regulations.

Your caring and confident demeanour will enable you to relate well to the children within your centre as you strive for excellence in service.

This role would be well-suited to someone who either has previous experience working as a Cook in a childcare setting and/or someone who has been working as an Early Childhood Educator and looking for a different role. Candidates with experience working in a commercial kitchen, who are passionate about providing health and nutritious meals to children, are also welcome to apply.
