About the Organisation

Community First Step was founded more than 40 years ago. In 1973 a group of local residents formed what was then known as the Fairfield Community Council for Social Development – a forum for community development and action on social issues.

Today, Community First Step is a growing organisation that encompasses Children, Youth and Family Services in the form of Case Work, Community Development, Disability Services and Children Services. They now employ over 35 staff as well as working with regular volunteers.

The organisation's vision for the future is to work in partnership with the community, business and government, to strive for excellence in meeting the holistic needs of their clients through the provision of high quality supportive, recreational, cultural, sporting and welfare programs.

About the Opportunity

Community First Step has an exciting opportunity for a Disability Service Manager to join their hard working team on a full-time basis, based in Fairfield East, NSW.

Reporting to the Executive Manager (Disability Services) this position is responsible for managing the day to day operations of a 25 person disability program.

Some of the role's additional duties will include:

  • Assisting in the growth and expansion and development of the disability services throughout the organisation;
  • Developing best practice/high-quality programs, enabling participants to reach their potentials;
  • Effectively implementing and measuring program outcomes;
  • Assisting in budget preparation and ensuring operations stay within this approved budget;
  • Providing regular supervisory support and training development to staff; and
  • Addressing gaps/issues that impact negatively on participants and/or programs outcomes.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will hold a relevant tertiary or vocational qualification to complement their wealth of experience in the disability sector. It will also be integral to your success that you have a comprehensive understanding of community networks and relevant legislation, such as the NDIS. 

You will have a strong business acumen with a focus on performance-based outcomes, along with demonstrated high levels of systems thinking, problem-solving, and operational and strategic management skill. You will also be a confident leader with superior communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills when speaking with people with a disability, people from non-English speaking backgrounds, young people and their families.

Above all, you will be an empathetic, proactive, passionate, and highly organised person, who can adapt their knowledge to new situations and strive to make a real difference for individuals and families.
