About the Organisation
Platts Partnership is a family owned and operated large dairy farm at Quaama, NSW (26kms North of Bega). Located half an hour from the beach, 2 hours from the snow fields and 3 hours from Canberra, Platts Partnership is predominantly a large dryland dairy farm with a small area of irrigation.
The organisation is milking 680+ cows through a 50 unit Rotary Dairy calving twice a year in the Autumn and Spring. The dairy uses GEA Westfalia Dairyplan and has automatic ID, feeding, drafting and cup removers.
About the Opportunity
Platts Partnership is now on the lookout for a Senior Dairy Hand / Assistant Herd Manager to join their team on a full-time basis.
Working closely with the farm owner, with increasing levels of independence and leadership over time, your primary responsibility will be to lead dairy operations for Platts Partnership.
Some of your key duties will require an active role in, and supervision of:
- Milking;
- Cow calving, heifer tagging, and colustrum administration;
- Performing stock work including droving of milking herd, drying off cows, transitioning dry cows to springer paddock, collaring heifers and maintaining cow collars;
- Overseeing and executing synchronised breeding program including heat detection and AI;
- Recording all herd management information on computer;
- Maintaining Herd Health – eg Mastitis, Feet etc.;
- Coordinating and managing Preg Testing and Herd Recording;
- Maintaining Work Health and Safety (WHS) and Animal Welfare standards;
- Maintaining Milk Quality and Assurance (HACCP) program;
- Providing backup support for seasonal operations eg. Silage Production;
- During peak calving periods, monitoring calving paddock on days off (when owner not available);
- Maintaining dairy plant and equipment; and
- Performing accurate and regular reporting.

About You
The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years experience on dairy farms and any relevant tertiary/vocational qualifications will be held in high regard. You'll have demonstrated progression within the dairy industry, showing loyalty to your employers, and now ready to take the next step in your career.
Experience using Dairy Herd Management programs (preferably GEA Westfalia Dairyplan) will be essential, as will strong working knowledge of all aspects of animal husbandry and herdsmanship.
Importantly, you'll have the ability to effectively manage, support, train and maintain quality staff, as Platts Partnership is very reliant on teamwork and collaboration. With exceptional organisational skills, a great work ethic and accuracy with numbers you will be set for success!
Most of all, you will have a passion for cows with a focus on cow production, health and welfare.
