Your new role

Briggs & Stratton has an exciting opportunity for a talented Design and Applications Engineer to join their organisation in Moorebank, Sydney, NSW.

Reporting to the Lead Engineer, this hands-on role is responsible for managing projects ensuring they meet cost and timeline requirements. Additionally, this role will perform tasks that are varied and moderately difficult which require troubleshooting and interpretation of data, development of new test methods or procedures used for a variety of situations. 

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Planning, executing, coordinating and organising detailed development as part of a major project of moderate scope;
  • Application of best APQP practices such as DFMEA, DVP&R’s, PPAP, including using advanced techniques (FEA) to resolve customer concerns/problems and prepare technical reports on results;
  • Adhering to NPD process as relates to product development, pre-production and post-launch steps; implement ECR’s and ECN’s and undertake other product compliance requirements
  • Overseeing the work of other technical support personnel;
  • Evaluating both locally manufactured and/ or locally or globally sourced products, for components failure using advanced engineering techniques;
  • Providing detailed drawings of complicated parts and assembly drawings as needed

What we need from you

To be considered, you'll have either a bachelor's degree or certificate in Engineering coupled with extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Mechatronics. This experience will be backed by your excellent understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including the ability to convert those principles into detailed product designs and manufacturing drawings. 

You'll be self-motivated, detail-oriented and have a high sense of integrity. Strong communication skills are essential, especially when communicating technical aspects of a design to the production team as well as non-technical clients and stakeholders. You'll also require proven and extensive experience using CAD/CAE (Unigraphics NX preferred), and other related systems such as SAP and Teamcenter.

Importantly, you will have the demonstrated ability and experience to put your own concepts into action. This is a hands-on role, so you'll also need a strong level of mechanical competence and creativity, as well as the practical skills required in an engineering and manufacturing environment. Experience in a product development role in consumer products will be considered an advantage.
