Wirraka Maya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation has the mission of ensuring that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health education and training is culturally relevant, based on good practice, and serves the needs of both industry and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

Wirraka Maya was born from the efforts of Aboriginal people to establish a health service that addressed the unmet needs of Aboriginal people in the town of Port Hedland. It now provides a service to the greater Port Hedland and South Hedland area and the Warralong community.

Wirraka Maya Health Service is an AGPAL accredited incorporated organisation established in 1993.

About the Opportunity

Wirraka Maya has an exciting opportunity for a full-time or locum General Practitioner to join their Clinical Service Team in South Hedland, WA.

In collaboration with the Senior Medical Officer and other managers and staff, your objective will be to ensure that the Clinical Services Team delivers a supportive, culturally appropriate, effective and efficient service, in order that the health needs of clients and the community are met. This position will operate under a community-controlled model of care.

To be eligible for this role, it is essential that you are a registered General Practitioner with a current practice certificate, with minimum 5 years’ experience as a Medical OfficerWirraka Maya is willing to provide eligible General Practitioners with supervision if required.

As you will be working with a multi-disciplinary team, you must have the ability to work collaboratively and respect the contribution of all team members.

This role also calls for someone with a commitment to ongoing participation in education, professional development, and evidence based research and quality assurance. An understanding of the principles of Aboriginal community control in primary health care delivery will be crucial, as will broad based experience in primary health care appropriate to working in a rural/remote location. 

Please note: If successful, you will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check and a National Police Clearance Check.

About the Benefits

In return for your hard work and dedication, Wirraka Maya is offering an attractive salary package, commensurate with skills and experience.

In addition, you will receive a District Allowance (single $3,211, double $6,422) and subsidised accommodation, along with a fully maintained vehicle for business and private use as per the WMHSAC policies.

An annual airfare of $1,230 is provided following 12 months of service, with 5 weeks’ annual leave.
