About the Organisation

Breakaway Toowoomba Incorporated is one of the oldest and best know disability support agencies in the Toowoomba region, and has been providing a service to people with a disability and their families in Toowoomba and nearby outlying towns for over 20 years. These services are facilitated in a range of ways including In-Home and/or Community Access, Supported Accommodation, Rural and Remote, Vacation Care and through the organisation's two (2) Guesthouses located in Highfields and Bridge Street.

About the Opportunity

Breakaway Toowoomba now has a rare opportunity for an Executive Officer/CEO to join their dedicated team based in Toowoomba, on a full-time basis. 

Reporting directly to the Board, the Executive Officer is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organisation according to the strategic direction set by the Board. The position will work in cooperation with a team of coordinators to provide day-to-day leadership, coordination and managerial responsibility for the effective functioning and the operations of Breakaway.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Board of Directors through active participation, training and skills development;
  • Providing top-level leadership and guidance to 130+ employees, including managing the recruitment, induction and ongoing training of staff;
  • Implementing the Strategic Business Plan, policies and directions of the organisation;
  • Managing individual budgets, expenses and income;
  • Meeting all strategic KPI’s set by the Board;
  • Forecasting profit/loss reports and guiding the Board in decision-making processes; and
  • Managing key external relationships including senior levels of government, the media, consumer bodies and the wider community.

Breakaway Toowoomba is looking for a persuasive and passionate individual with a diverse skill set and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications, preferably in Business, Finance or Commerce, and previous experience working at a senior management level, ideally reporting to a Board. Experience within disability services and a working knowledge of the NDIS Scheme are also highly desired.  

Contract negotiations and compliance with regulations set by governing bodies is a key component of this role, so an understanding of government funding and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, will be critical to your success in this role. You will have a solid commercial acumen, with exposure to new business development and finance management, and excellent team leadership skills which you will use to motivate and inspire success in your employees and throughout the community.

Most importantly, Breakaway Toowoomba is looking for candidates with an understanding of people with disabilities and a strong ethical responsibility to drive and implement programs that better their lives and the lives of their families.
