About the Opportunity

Applanix has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Human Resources Generalist who is looking to take on a challenging and pivotal role within our rapidly growing technology company.

Based in North Vancouver and working with multiple divisions, you will provide support, guidance, and advice on HR-related related matters in accordance with internal policies, processes, and applicable legislation. Reporting to the Canadian Director of Human Resources, you will partner with managers, employees and the Human Resources team to support the Western Canadian division.   

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Assisting in the management of multiple programs, including group benefit and pension administration, disability management, talent acquisition, health and safety, policy development and implementation, employee communications, HRIS activities, compliance activities and general employee relations
  • Collaborating with managers to coordinate the recruitment and selection processes, including researching and implementing recruitment programs, social media and campus recruitment, preparing job postings and staff requisitions, screening resumes, conducting candidate pre-screening and interviewing, conducting reference checks and producing written job offers
  • Conducting new employee orientation and explaining key policies
  • Participating in the development, maintenance, and implementation of HR policies and procedures, making recommendations, providing guidance and resolving related issues
  • Maintaining knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations to ensure compliance
  • Assisting with employee terminations according to company policy and process
  • Completing documents for employee files, conducting exit interviews and monitoring employee relations and other cultural issues
  • Supporting Workday transactions, including approvals, troubleshooting, reporting and analysis for designated groups; providing Workday training and support to managers/employees
  • Working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations in addition to the company Health and Safety responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Maintaining knowledge and understanding of employment laws and regulations, ensuring legal compliance and initiating policy changes/updates
  • Identifying and recommending process and system improvements to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and credibility of HR services
  • Assisting with special projects, as required 

The Ideal Candidate

For this role, we are seeking someone with a relevant post-secondary education and at least seven years of experience in a professional Human Resources role. A CPHR designation is preferred, as is previous experience working with a US-based or technology company. Knowledge of key Human Resources functions is essential, including recruitment and selection, policy development, employee relations, benefits administration, HRIS and payroll.  

To succeed in this role, you will also demonstrate: 

  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code, etc.
  • A high degree of integrity and professionalism and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information 
  • The ability and willingness to travel, when required 
  • Experience with Taleo and Workday is an asset
