About You

The successful candidate will be a qualified Teacher, with WA Teacher Registration (or ability to obtain) and demonstrated post-graduate teaching experience. Given the remote location and community, experience working in a remote environment and/or with ESL/CALD/overseas students will be highly regarded.

You will have experience in play-based and on-country learning, along with the ability to program; you'll be responsible for deciding how to meet the desired learning outcomes.

In addition, you will need a willingness to work within the Explicit Instruction Framework, although there is scope for creativity and innovation when working toward the Key Learning Area targets.

Importantly, Kulkarriya Community School is seeking a teacher who:

  • Is committed to 'closing the gap' in Aboriginal education;
  • Brings flexibility to the role, in terms of different learning tasks and teaching techniques
  • Is patient, kind, inclusive and empathetic - not authoritarian; and
  • Has a respectful, student-focused approach to teaching.

Please Note: The community is only accessible by 4WD in the wet season and as such, a current Driver's License is a requirement of this role.

Relocation assistance is available, and you'll be provided with your own private accommodation with all utilities, including TV and DVD Player, paid for by the organisation.

Living and working in Noonkanbah - Is it for you?

Our staff embrace, and are motivated by, our challenge, context and remote location. But living and working in Noonkanbah is far removed from what many are used to, and can be a demanding career and life choice. We’re a small community in a remote location, some distance from the nearest major town. Typically, our staff spend their time exploring our beautiful surroundings and taking advantage of the adventure offered by living remotely. It’s important to develop hobbies and to plan activities – fun won’t come and find you. Most importantly, the demands of our role should not be underplayed. You’ll have good days and bad, and we all try to start each day anew, fresh and ready for the challenge. We hope you will too.
