About the Opportunity

Junee Shire Council now has an opportunity for a Team Leader - Construction and Maintenance to join their Road and Infrastructure Maintenance team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role is based in Junee - a small town in the picturesque Riverina region of NSW.

Reporting to the Works Manager, you’ll be responsible for leading a small team to deliver road and other infrastructure construction and maintenance projects; focusing on optimising productivity, quality work, safety, and environmental outcomes and standards.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strong leadership, direction, and guidance to staff;
  • Supporting team performance, with daily toolbox meetings, one-on-one discussions, on the job training, and WH&S awareness;
  • Managing daily planning of work tasks and assignments to complete assigned work;
  • Monitoring works progress, anticipating issues and preparing pre-emptive solutions;
  • Ensuring Workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to during all projects; and
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation via electronic mobile devices in the field.

To be successful in this position you will have the following:

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or similar, or the willingness to obtain;
  • Current Traffic Controller and Implement Traffic Control Plans tickets or be willing to obtain;
  • A current MR Licence;
  • A current White Card;
  • Demonstrated prior experience in a similar civil construction role, such as earthworks, roads, stormwater, sewerage mains, pavement construction, and maintenance; and
  • Demonstrated competency in operating heavy plant machinery such as excavators, rollers, and graders.

This is a leadership position and as such, Council is looking for candidates with strong leadership ability and a strong focus on managing relationships. While previous leadership experience would be an advantage, what's most important is your ability to influence and motivate a team and gain the trust and respect of your employees whilst adapting change as required. You will have strong attention to detail, be a clear and concise communicator, and provide technical advice and guidance as needed. 

On offer to the successful candidate is an attractive salary package circa $63,000 commensurate with skills and experience. In addition, you will have access to salary sacrificing options and penalty rates for overtime and on-call work to increase your take home pay.
