About the Opportunity

Amtech Aeronautical Limited has a great opportunity for a motivated Instrumentation Technologist/Journeyman Electrician to join our team in Medicine Hat, Alberta

In this challenging and highly varied role, you will work independently (under general engineering/technical supervision and direction) in planning and conducting Amtech’s engineering projects, with specialization in instrumentation, control systems, electrical installations, and military/aerospace system design. 

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager (Military and Process Control / Automation) and the Director of Engineering, or designate, your key areas of responsibility will include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Participating in engineering teams consisting of Amtech, subcontractors, and client personnel
  • Providing instrumentation, electronic, data acquisition, and control systems engineering support to Amtech military and aerospace projects (including but not restricted to the SEEC site, the Explosive Casting Facility, Base Suffield and BATUS support facilities, and infrastructure, and to tele-operated / autonomous ground vehicle control system projects)
  • Providing instrumentation, data acquisition, PLC, and electrician support for Amtech projects
  • Liaising with firms completing tests for Amtech
  • Providing technical support to Amtech personnel involved in projects outside of the military and process control/automation engineering areas (such as aeronautical/certification engineering project support)
  • Preparing engineering/design drawings (wiring details, assemblies, and installation drawings) as required to implement the design concepts using AutoCAD, Inventor 7, or with manual techniques
  • Acting as a technical liaison for our customers
  • Conducting business development activities including contact with prospective clients and preparation of engineering services and product proposals
  • Providing technical support for trade show and acting as a technical liaison with firms that are prototyping equipment and completing installations
  • Working as part of engineering teams formed from two or more companies
  • Liaising with other employees and/or consultants who are retained by the firm
  • Integrating prototype equipment and facilities

The Ideal Candidate 

You will do well in this role if you have completed a college diploma or technical institute program in electrical, electronics and/or instrumentation technology (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician

You will also possess:

  • Experience as a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician (asset only)
  • Eligibility for registration with ASET or an equivalent provincial body (asset only)
  • Entry level programmable logic controller experience (asset only)
  • HVACR and other facility control system entry level design experience (asset only)
  • Experience in the installation and commissioning of control systems for HVACR and other building and facility applications
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical code
  • The ability to interpret electrical and instrumentation installation drawings
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to obtain and hold government-issued security clearance
