About the Organisation

Child Safety Services is the Queensland Government agency for child protection and adoption services. This department is dedicated to protecting children and young people from harm, or who are at risk of harm, and whose parents cannot provide adequate care or protection. This service forms part of The Department of Communities, Child Services and Disability Services and has a clear agenda for reform in response to recommendations of the Queensland Child Protection Commission of Inquiry report (The Carmody Report). 

Child safety service centres work closely with non-government and government partners to provide support and a range of services to children, young people, families, and carers to ensure children's safety and wellbeing and to prevent children from being harmed.

The Mt Isa - Gulf Child Safety Service Centre is based in Mt Isa and services regional and remote centres including Mornington, Doomadgee, Cloncurry and Julia Creek; and as such is particularly focussed on the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

About the Opportunity

The Department of Communities, Child Services and Disability Services now has a rewarding opportunity for a Service Centre Manager - Child Safety to join their team on a full-time permanent basis in Mt Isa, Qld. 

Reporting to the Regional Director, you will be responsible for the operational management of the Child Safety Service Centre and leadership of a team of 40 in the delivery of high-quality child protection services to clients and communities.

Your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Managing staff and physical and financial resources to facilitate effective and timely delivery of core services to meet organisational and community expectations;
  • Implementing quality case management systems, practices, standards and service delivery framework;
  • Leading, managing and supporting a committed team across a range of locations to get best results; including ensuring there is appropriate professional development and supervision;
  • Interpreting and implementing change in accordance with an established reform agenda;
  • Developing and maintaining productive and enduring partnerships with government, non-government, community and indigenous stakeholders;
  • Providing high-level support and advice to regional management in relation to outcomes, delivery, and improvement strategies; and
  • Fostering a culture and philosophy of frontline service delivery, teamwork, and commitment to excellence. 

The Department of Communities, Child Services and Disability Services are seeking a candidate with demonstrated experience in managing operational activities in line with strategic objectives and achieving results through productive working relationships and effective staff leadership.

You will also have an understanding of the issues, philosophies, and trends that affect the delivery of human services, including issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Previous experience working in Indigenous communities (preferably in remote areas) will be highly regarded.

This role requires the successful candidate to have a strong focus on community engagement and display exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to ensure you are effectively establishing relationships.

Formal tertiary qualifications are not mandatory but relevant human services and management qualifications will be highly regarded.
