State Sports Centres Trust is a statutory authority which governs the Melbourne Sports Hub's four venues; Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), State Netball Hockey Centre (SNHC), Lakeside Stadium and the MSAC Institute of Training, a specialist training institute for the sport and recreation industry.

About the Opportunity

The State Sports Centres Trust (SSCT) has an exciting full time opportunity for a Head Chef to join their team based at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Albert Park, Victoria.

This year, the MSAC cafe is due to undergo a million dollar refurbishment and the SSCT will be completely rebranding its food service outlets.  As this is a hands-on role, it's essential the successful candidate is a proven leader who also has a talent for creating elegant and unique food. Our customers include some of Australia's top athletes so creating healthy food options is an absolute must!

Reporting to the Catering Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading a busy kitchen team,  overseeing produce and ingredients, and designing new menus for the SSCT cafe and functions.   

To ensure the overall guest experience and to exceed expectations, you will be able to multi-task and effectively work in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate kitchen operations in regards to events/functions;
  • Ensure that relevant stock and supplies are available well maintained, labelled and stored;
  • Ensure all products sold are safe and in compliance with the Food Act 1984;
  • Establish weekly food plans;
  • Make recommendations for team training and development; and
  • Maintain stock control systems.

In addition, you’ll need a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or similar qualification), along with a Food Safety Supervisors Certificate. Previous experience in a similar role and a strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements will be pivotal to your success. 

Due to the nature of the role, any administration experience in a hospitality role will also be beneficial.
