About Yarralin

Yarralin, also known as Walangeri, is an Indigenous community located on the Wickham River, 389km south-west of Katherine. The stunning outback location is in close proximity to the Gregory National Park and the spectacular Jasper Gorge. The community is home to 300 people and has a post office, general store, medical clinic, local manned police station and community school.

Outdoor types love Yarralin with its multitude of fishing, camping and exploring opportunities. Timber Creek, home of the 'NT Barra Classic' fishing tournament is a regular destination for Yarralin residents.

Yarralin, due to its remote location and isolation, does not have access to the mobile network or ADSL. Internet is available through satellite and wireless. Staff are encouraged to apply through the NBN for home use.

About the Opportunity

Victoria Daly Regional Council has an exciting opportunity for an Aged Care Team Leader to join the team in Yarralin, NT, on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Council Service Manager, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and implementing the Aged Care Service, ensuring that elderly citizens of the community and the surrounding ward are receiving personal physical and emotional support to assist them with daily living. 

More specifically, duties will include:

  • Training, mentoring, and supervising staff members;
  • Preparing monthly plans and reports;
  • Coordinating the Meals on Wheels kitchen and food delivery;
  • Organising and participating in activities designed to enhance physical, social, and emotional well-being;
  • Giving advice to clients about nutrition, food storage and hygiene; and
  • Ensuring the policies, procedures, and Work Health and Safety regulations of the Council are adhered to, and all resources effectively deployed.

The successful candidate will hold a Certificate III in Aged Care or similar relevant qualification, and a First Aid Certificate. A Diploma in Community Services, Aged Care Services, and/or qualifications in Nursing or equivalent would also be highly desirable.

You will have excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to negotiate, consult, and network with all levels of staff and stakeholders. You will also feel confident leading, managing, and developing staff from a range of backgrounds in a culturally appropriate context. 

With well-developed communication skills, you will demonstrate a caring and supportive attitude towards clients, respecting the values, customs, preferences, and beliefs of clients and their families. You will also be flexible and enthusiastic in your approach to adding value and quality to elderly clients.

Please note, to be eligible for this role, you are required to hold (or be willing to obtain):

  • Certificate III in Aged Care
  • A current Driver's License
  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • A current Ochre Card 
  • A Criminal History Check (recent within 3 months)
