About the Organisation

Alesco Far West Learning Centre is a registered and accredited non-denominational, independent secondary school, for students completing years 9 and 10. 

Alesco Far West offers students the chance to complete their school education and especially aims to include those whose lives may be complicated, challenging or require a particular understanding in order to achieve success. The school is committed to providing a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment in which students can reach their full educational potential in a positive school culture.

The current cohort of approximately 20 students are able to study the mandatory subjects required of year 9 and 10 students. These include English, Maths, PDHPE, Science and HSIE.

Alesco Far West additionally offers non-traditional activities tied into the normal curriculum.

The school adopts a more holistic approach to education and has considerable potential for growth to support community and student needs, particularly to accommodate Year 7 and 9 students. 

Alesco Far West and Robinson College share premises and are arms of Robinson Education Centre Ltd. The campus has modern, well-resourced facilities including an on-site cafe.

About the Opportunity

Alesco Far West Learning Centre now has an exciting full-time opportunity for a committed and dynamic Principal based in Broken Hill, NSW.

Working closely with the Board and CEO, you will be responsible for providing effective care and education to students whilst also providing quality leadership to a small team of dedicated staff. You will also be responsible for financial management (including creating and implementing a budget) for the school, and consolidating its established operations then developing and delivering on plans for growth.

Some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Efficient and effective management of the school including all compliance and governance requirements;
  • Liaising with school authorities, school community, and other organisations;
  • Establishing and implementing academic goals and curricula;
  • Recruitment and supervision of staff; and
  • Some in class teaching.

Alesco Far West is seeking an individual who has the capacity to work effectively with students who may have had difficulties learning in a mainstream school environment. In this role, it is paramount the Principal is a source of support and guidance to students whilst being able to set appropriate boundaries. 

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in a senior educational role, hold a relevant teaching degree, with recent teaching experience, and be registered to teach in NSW. Previous experience using alternative teaching strategies and a demonstrated capacity for innovation and creating new opportunities will be highly regarded. 

You will also have exceptional communication skills and the ability to develop interesting and satisfying relationships with students, staff, and external stakeholders.

As such, this role requires an educational professional who is accepting, motivating, imaginative, and caring.
