About the Opportunity

The Balonne Shire Council is looking to welcome a driven Works Manager to join their dedicated team in St George, QLD, on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services you will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of Council's construction and maintenance programs (roadworks, drainage, parks and gardens, recreation and public facilities, depots, workshops and Department of Transport & Main Roads project works). You will also be responsible for managing the Council's day labour workforce, plant fleet, and contractors. 

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to);

  • Delivering Infrastructure Construction to agreed scope, cost, schedule, and quality;
  • Delivering Infrastructure Maintenance to conform to Asset Management Plans;
  • Assisting with planning, directing and providing leadership, including coordination of operations and performance;
  • Providing leadership to eight direct reports and a total team of 40 - 45; and
  • Taking all practical measures to ensure that your workplace is safe and without risk to health or property.

The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in civil construction work and experience managing a large outdoor workforce (including scheduling and procurement) engaged in delivering construction and maintenance services with a focus on productivity and safety.

You will be able to demonstrate experience managing construction and maintenance projects and programs and a record of delivering projects on time and on budget.

Candidates with a Certificate IV in Civil Construction, Frontline Management, Leadership and Management or equivalent will be highly regarded, as will previous experience in a regional local government context.

Balonne Shire Council is looking for an effective leader who can provide direction and transmit knowledge to direct report employees. You will also display a high-level of customer service and communication skills with the ability to liaise with stakeholders in a culturally diverse environment.

Please note: To be eligible for this role, you must have sound computer literacy skills using Microsoft Office suite. Previous experience with MS Project will be highly regarded.
