About the Opportunity

The Balonne Shire Council is looking to welcome an experienced Project Engineer to join their dedicated team in St George, QLD, on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services you will be responsible for specialist management of Council's water, sewerage, roads, drainage, and civil infrastructure. You will also be responsible for ensuring Council meets its levels of service, regulatory and licensing requirements by providing a high-level of technical leadership.

More specifically, your day-to-day duties will include;

  • Managing construction projects and providing technical support in water and wastewater;
  • Identifying and resolving problems;
  • Managing construction projects and providing technical support for other Council infrastructure projects and programs including road, drainage, civil construction and maintenance;
  • Providing leadership direction to 1 direct report employee and overseeing a total team of 5;
  • Project management and compliance management;
  • Contributing to the development of a Risk Register for capital and maintenance projects; and
  • Ensuring compliance with Council Policies, Procedures, and Manuals.

The successful candidate will hold a Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline. You must also have a background in water, sewerage, and stormwater construction, contract compliance management, road, drainage, and other Council infrastructure construction and asset management.

You will have demonstrated experience in the following;

  • Delivering water and sewerage construction and maintenance services;
  • Managing construction and maintenance projects and programs to ensure conformity with Asset Management Plans and project management methods;
  • Managing contracts, procurements, and budgets; and
  • Managing compliance with relevant Acts [Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008]. 

Balonne Shire Council is looking for an effective leader who can motivate and inspire a total quality management system culture and adherence across the operations team. As such, you must possess excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and exceptional team management.

Your excellent written communication skills will allow you to write and review detailed reports and documentation accurately. This is a great opportunity to hit the ground running and join a collaborative and enthusiastic team who have a real passion and dedication for their work.

Please note: To be eligible for this role, you must hold a current C Class Open Driver’s License, and have sound computer literacy skills using Microsoft Office suite. Previous experience with MS Project will also be highly regarded.
