Our client has a brand new opportunity for an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to be based in Edmonton, Alberta on a full-time basis.  

In this role, you will oversee the design and construction of schools, community buildings, and residential facilities. Previous project management experience is highly desirable, as is knowledge of formal project methodology. 

With proven ability to lead project teams and liaise with rural municipalities, First Nations, Consultants and Governmental Agencies, you will determine projects requirements, inspect facilities, provide structural assessments, and recommend appropriate remedial action.

Key duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Reviewing structural design and conducting structural analysis of buildings and components
  • Providing direction and advice on projects, from conceptual project design through to project completion
  • Liaising with clients to document and communicate project progress and results 
  • Advising and assisting with the selection of project consultants and the development of contract documents
  • Advising and assisting with the development of construction specifications and implementation of the capital construction program 
  • Preparing building inspection reports by interpreting findings and providing clear recommendations 
  • Monitoring program delivery and recommending changes to enhance service delivery or sector performance 

This position requires a qualified Professional Engineer (P.Eng) who is currently registered/eligible for registration with APEGA.

To qualify for this role, candidates must also have: 

  • A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university or technical institution.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience with building structures, building performance investigation, and building condition audits
  • Previous experience with structural design of building components

This role is well suited to someone with working knowledge of applicable codes and exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

The ability to lead, develop and motivate project teams is essential, as is the ability to implement effective quality control measures.   

Due to the nature and location of this role, a valid driver's license and the ability to travel within the province of Alberta on a regular basis is required. This is a full-time role with standard Monday to Friday working hours and guaranteed to have you home every weekend.
