About the Accommodation & Shared Living Arrangements Service

This service is about supporting people to live in their own home to participate and develop valued roles in their community, and to make their own decisions about how they live their life. The service is focused on providing or facilitating the support these people want for their life. Support is provided focusing on the person’s strengths, choices and desires, always ensuring respect for their choices.

Your New Career

Sunshine is currently seeking a number of Support Workers to join their teams in Blacktown, Ryde, Concord and Hornsby. There are both part-time (minimum of 20 hours per week) and casual opportunities available.  

The role of Support Worker is a pivotal role at Sunshine, and will see you responsible for providing or facilitating the right type and amount of support, in a person-centred way, for the person being supported to develop and live a good life, according to their own choices.

Some of your specific duties will include (but may not be limited to):

  • Providing direct support (home, community or centre-based) to clients to meet their needs and goals, as identified on their individual plan, including:
    • Supporting clients with personal care, including eating, toileting and bathing
    • Assisting with daily living skills
    • Transferring/hoisting between the toilet, bed, motor vehicle, etc.
    • Administering medication
    • Transporting clients in vehicles or providing support on public transport
    • Providing support and assistance to promote good health and well-being
    • Promoting activities that offer meaningful experiences, increase social networks and opportunities for skill development and involvement within their communities
  • Displaying a professional attitude and appearance at all times when accompanying the person you support in the community, promoting positive interactions and community inclusion;
  • Respecting privacy, dignity and confidentiality; and
  • Establishing an open and effective relationship with clients and families.

Please Note: A current driver's license, or willingness to obtain, will be required. As the Service is a 24 hour operation, you must also be willing to work across a variety of shifts as rostered, including morning, afternoon, sleepover and active night shifts.

Relevant qualifications or experience are great, however it will be your ability to engage with clients in creative and meaningful ways that will see you thrive in this role.

Due to the nature of the position, you will need a degree of resilience, emotional intelligence and mental capacity to work in emotionally demanding environments.

Your strong communication skills will see you effectively liaising with both clients and staff, working as part of a team to achieve the client, team and service goals.
