About the Organisation

Beginning operations in 1980, the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) was the first Aboriginal group to be allocated a broadcasting licence. The Aboriginal people of Central Australia own CAAMA through an association and have clear objectives focused on the social, cultural and economic advancement of Aboriginal people.

CAAMA promotes Aboriginal culture, language, dance and music while generating economic benefits in the form of training, employment and income generation. CAAMA is proud of their reputation for producing media products that engenders pride in Aboriginal culture while informing and educating the wider community of the richness and diversity of the Aboriginal peoples of Australia.

CAAMA is an award winning organisation and has received the Diversity Award from the Australian and New Zealand Internet Awards (ANZIAs) which recognises excellence in the use of the Internet by businesses, organisations and individuals. Additionally, a production department trainee also won the "Best Director" award at the Indigenous Remote Communication Association (IRCA) Awards.

About the Opportunity

The Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association has a truly exciting full-time opportunity for a Junior Producer/Presenter to join their team in Alice Springs, NT.  

As a member of the local radio team, you will be responsible for producing compelling online broadcasts and presenting a designated program in collaboration with the Radio Station Manager. You will also be responsible for creating social media and mobile content to meet the changing coverage and content requirements across all platforms. 

Your main responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Actively engaging in community activities or national projects with the support of the Radio Station Manager;
  • Maintaining and updating a database of contacts and networks;
  • Applying cultural understanding and awareness in the workplace;
  • Participating as an effective team member of CAAMA; and
  • Applying safe work practices at all times. 

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience at creating local cross-media content or have a strong willingness to learn. You will also need to have - or demonstrate a strong understanding of- editorial skills including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise reliable judgment in line with the framework of CAAMA programming policies. 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capacity to use the software and hardware relevant to this role whilst also being aware of the emerging technologies.

In addition, it is essential that candidates have an understanding of cultural protocols relating to Indigenous people or a willingness to undertake in training in Central Australia specific protocols.

This role will be ideal for an individual who displays exceptional communication skills, has an inquisitive nature, and a real passion for producing quality and engaging broadcasts relevant to issues in the region.

While not essential, candidates with a detailed understanding of issues that affect and interest local audiences of diverse cultural backgrounds and a knowledge of the Indigenous broadcasting industry will be highly regarded.

Please note: Candidates are required to have a current driver's licence and the willingness to work flexible hours and in remote locations when required.
