The Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland was formed 60 years ago and is now Queensland's largest, non-government physical disability services provider. The League spends approximately $60 million a year to provide services that assist people with cerebral palsy and related disabilities to reach their education, employment, independent living and community participation goals. The resources to do this are obtained through fundraising activities, community support and some government assistance.
The League places particular importance on early intervention methods and providing targeted services at a young age. About the Opportunity
The Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland currently has a fantastic opportunity for a full-time Social Worker to join their team in Townsville.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the main aim of this position will be to provide a social work service as part of a team to children with a disability and their families.
More specifically, you will be required to:
- Gain an understanding of the needs of children and their families through ongoing contact and assessment as appropriate;
- Assist children and their families to reach their goals and potential as indicated in their family and team plan;
- Develop community resource networks that enhance client access, rights and independence;
- Work with children and families as part of a team and part of the community to maximise the relevance and benefits of services accessed by clients;
- Provide information to families/carers and community networks to empower clients in decision-making and in gaining access to relevant services;
- Use functional caseload management responsibly; and
- Maintain and develop professional skills, knowledge and ethical practice in achieving quality client outcomes.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree or equivalent, and be eligible for Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) membership.
Applicants must also have a current Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card), a current 'C' class driver's licence and be eligible to obtain a Disability Services Queensland Positive Notice Card.
Demonstrated abilities in organisation, prioritisation and time management are essential for this role, along with clear written and verbal communication skills.
The ideal candidate will be non-judgmental and able to work effectively with people who have a broad range of personality types and diverse cultural backgrounds. A broad vision in regard to service delivery, an ability to understand the affected parties and their needs and an ability to operate in a team and autonomously are also required.
The successful applicant will work within an experienced transdisciplinary team where a self-managed work team approach is encouraged by the Regional Manager. This will enable you to contribute to all elements of service design, direction and delivery.
It is planned to potentially expand the case load to include adults in 2009.
Experience would be highly regarded but graduates are also welcome to apply for this role.
