Community First Step was founded in 1973 when a group of local residents formed what was then known as the Fairfield Community Council for Social Development – a forum for community development and action on social issues.

Today, Community First Step is a growing organisation that encompasses Children, Youth and Family Services in the form of Case Work, Community Development, Disability Services and Children Services. They now employ 64 staff, as well as working with regular volunteers.

About the Opportunity

Due to growth in the organisation, Community First Step has a rare opportunity for an Executive Manager (Children's Services) to join their team in Fairfield, NSW on a full-time basis.

In this position, your primary responsibility will be to run and transform existing Children's Services while also managing the establishment of new services

More specifically, some of your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Defining, developing and monitoring quality of service at each of the Services;
  • Developing, monitoring and updating budgets for the Services with the support of the CEO;
  • Ensuring that all staff follow the agreed budgets and procedures around budgets and budgeting;
  • Transitioning an existing Occasional Care Service into a Long Day Care Service;
  • Recruiting, monitoring, supporting and training staff within the Services;
  • Identifying opportunities to expand Community First Step's involvement in other Early Childhood services;
  • Reporting to the CEO on issues such as performance, attendance, policy, strategic direction and WH&S relating to each of the Services.

The successful candidate will be an innovative and energetic leader with demonstrated experience managing programs or services in the Not For Profit sector, ideally within Early Childhood / Inclusion services. Your passion for the industry will drive your focus on results, and your capacity to inspire and motivate others. As this organisation has growth as one of its primary aims, candidates with demonstrated experience in establishing and growing Long Day Care services will be very highly regarded.

You'll be working within a multidisciplinary team and as such, will require excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to develop effective working relationships with all staff, as well as with external stakeholders. This role will suit an analytical, strategic and professionally presented individual with a "can-do" attitude. 

Importantly, you'll be an innovative leader with a desire to develop your own role, along with the Children's Services area of the business.
