About the Opportunity  

Methanex is currently seeking a Human Resources Advisor to join the HR team in Medicine Hat, Alberta. 

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, you will lead the effective delivery of a variety of critical HR functions at the Medicine Hat methanol production site. Specifically, you will focus on compensation and benefits planning, performance and talent management, workforce planning, and the facilitation of strategic leadership development, as well as involvement with strategic global initiatives. 

The HR Advisor further supports day-to-day HR operations in the areas of recruitment, systems development and testing, planning and revision of employee services programs, and other related support. 

This position is identified as a strategic, talent acquisition opportunity with links to future succession potential.

Key accountabilities include: 

  • Leading strategic salary and benefits planning initiatives, including the collection of benchmarking data and the preparation and submission of compensation data surveys
  • Coordinating assignments for employees transitioning to and from global roles, including coordination of special compensation provisions
  • Leading performance management processes, including site application of global tools for goal setting and performance reviews, training and communication to the site on performance planning tools, and ensuring process and annual reporting is completed
  • Guiding leaders regarding the performance improvement process including performance improvement planning, application of the disciplinary guideline and other appropriate measures to ensure workplace accountability
  • Leading the site management team in talent and succession planning efforts; supporting individual planning processes to prepare future site and global succession candidates for leadership and critical roles within the organization, and setting targets and goals regarding readiness for next step roles
  • Overseeing the employee anniversary awards program and other related recognition initiatives
  • Overseeing HR disability management processes in conjunction with the Occupational Health Advisor and the Payroll Coordinator
  • Providing guidance on applicable Human Resources legislation, practices and trends, as well as HR practices within Methanex

For this senior role, we are seeking an experienced HR professional with an undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other related disciplines, in combination with a minimum of eight (8) years of HR experience with proven leadership ability in the areas of compensation planning, performance and talent management, and general HR practices. 

The successful candidate will also demonstrate: 

  • A high degree of fundamental human resources functional knowledge
  • Knowledge and experience with a major HRIS application, including advanced reporting
  • Superior project management, planning, and analysis skills
