About the Opportunity

Kina Gbezhgomi Child & Family Services is currently in the second phase of their recruitment drive and have multiple opportunities available for Child Wellbeing/Protection Workers to join their various teams based in the Manitoulin region of Ontario.

Full-time and part-time opportunities currently exist. Candidates must also be willing to work a rotating after-hours schedule, as required. 

Under the direction of the Service Supervisor, these roles are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of children in accordance with KGCFS policies, procedures, and Ministry Standards. Working collaboratively with all KGCFS resources, as well as biological/foster parents, extended family, and First Nation communities, you will ensure that children are protected and stay connected with their culture, language, and community while strengthening family and community relationships

The after-hours shift also provides emergency response for child and family services outside of agency's regular operating hours. 

Key responsibilities include (depending on the particular role):  

  • Receive, screen and process incoming reports and referrals 
  • Conduct child protection investigations in compliance with agency policy
  • Prepare family-based service plans, make appropriate referrals and participate in interdisciplinary case management
  • Prepare and maintain case documentation 
  • Monitor and evaluate case progress towards established goals 
  • Provide support and training for caregivers and families 
  • Uphold the vision, mission, and values of the agency and adhere to policies and procedures
  • Other duties, as needed 

To qualify, you will have an accredited college diploma in a related field of study. Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, or related discipline. College Diplomas and University Degrees are both accepted and reflected in salary grid placement.

In addition, the successful candidates will demonstrate the following: 

  • At least two (2) years of work experience in the delivery of direct, frontline, social service programming targeting children, youth and families
  • Working knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act
  • Previous experience in an Aboriginal social service agency (asset) 
  • The ability to speak Anishnaabemowin (asset)

Most importantly, you must be knowledgeable, respectful, and sensitive to the Anishinaabe culture and be committed to helping First Nation families strengthen and achieve a healthy level of wellbeing.

There are also some roles where applicants can be hired without specifically meeting the 2-year experience requirement. In these roles, the successful applicants would be required to remain at level 1 on their grid for 2 years to meet the required experience needs before they advance.  

In consideration of our highly specialized approach to the delivery of child welfare in our area, preference will be given to Indigenous/Anishinabek candidates who self-identify. 

Due to the nature and location of this role, a valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle and ability to travel is required, as is a criminal record search with vulnerable sector screening. 

About the Benefits

For your hard work and dedication to the role, you will receive a competitive annual salary to commensurate with your experience, skills, and qualifications, with annual salary increases. After Hour hourly on-call and stand-by rates premiums also apply. After Hour Worker position on-call rate is $31.19 per hour.
