About the Organisation

The Riverina Medical and Dental Aboriginal Corporation (RivMed) is a not-for-profit leader in the provision of primary health care and community welfare services.

RivMed aims to provide services which reflect the growing need of Aboriginal people to have access to primary health care and community welfare services.

These include preventative health care programs and the core programs also reflect the need to continue to address the inequality in health outcomes that persist. Those core programs include medical services, and family health, drug and alcohol counselling and advocacy support.

Services in support of Aboriginal families include those provided by the Family Health Team, Intensive Family Based Services, Out of Home Care and the Family Functional Therapy-Child Welfare and Social & Emotional Wellbeing teams.

As part of the NSW Government’s New Family Preservation Models initiative, RivMed has been selected to provide Family Functional Therapy – Child Welfare services in Wagga Wagga and surrounds.

About the Opportunity

RivMed now has multiple opportunities for Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists and Social Workers to act as Therapeutic Practitioners within their Child Welfare services team based in Wagga Wagga, NSW on a full-time basis.

The Therapeutic Practitioners report to the Team Leader - Therapeutic Services and are primarily responsible for the sustainable delivery of Family Functional Therapy - child welfare services within a team environment of skilled caseworkers and clinical therapeutic staff. Your duties will include the delivery of psychological services and case management and adapting service delivery to meet the needs of diverse families. You will also be required to undertake data collection and reporting in order to undertake evidence-based decision making. 

To be successful as a Therapeutic Practitioner you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Indigenous Health (Nursing or Mental Health), or equivalent;
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable families; and
  • To deliver therapeutic interventions

RivMed is looking for candidates who have experience or demonstrated capacity in working with Aboriginal people and communities, and an understanding of contemporary and historical issues affecting Aboriginal families and their children. You will have a strong knowledge of early intervention, child protection, as well as a good understanding of therapeutic frameworks.

As a trauma-informed, stength's-based program, the successful candidates will also have a strong understanding of how to build parental capacity and how to strengthen and empower families.

Candidates with an understanding of inter-generational trauma and those who have the ability to develop links within the community will be highly regarded.

Please note: A current Driver's License and the ability to travel as necessary, is a requirement of this position. In addition, all employees will be required to undertake a Police Check and/or Working with Children Check prior to commencement with RivMed.   

About the Benefits

Remuneration will be negotiated with each candidate, commensurate on skills and experience. As a guide:

  • Social Workers - circa $80,000 plus super and NFP salary packaging
  • Psychologists - circa $96,000 plus super and NFP salary packaging
  • Clinical Psychologists - circa $113,000 plus super and NFP salary packaging
