Multicultural Care are a not-for-profit, secular, community organisation, specialising in home and community-based support services for frail-aged people, people with disability, and their carers, from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

Multicultural Care's consumers and participants are from many diverse cultures and social backgrounds. They ensure all people are treated with respect and that their privacy, health, wellbeing, and cultural/linguistic needs are primary considerations.

Multicultural Care receives funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

About the Opportunity

Multicultural Care now has an exciting, newly created opportunity for an experienced Coordinator - Disability Programs to join their dedicated team in Sydney, NSW on a full-time, 12 month contract basis initially, moving to part-time basis afterwards (hours depending on NDIS client volume)

Reporting to the Client Services Manager, you will be responsible for developing Multicultural Care’s disability programs, including coordinating our growing NDIS supports, and establishing and coordinating a new ILC funded Horticultural Project. You will be required to work 3 to 4 days a week on the Horticultural Project, and 1 day a week on the NDIS Services.

The Horticultural Project is a 12-month program funded through the ILC, with the objective to address barriers to inclusion and build sustainable connections in the community for people with disability from CALD backgrounds. You will be required to establish and coordinate the project across three Sydney Regions (Inner-West, South-East and South-West Sydney), in line with funding guidelines and project deliverables.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Managing referrals and liaising with NDIS participants;
  • Coordinating the delivery of NDIS supports with the assistance of the Roster Coordinator;
  • Ensuring participants are receiving support to their individual needs;
  • Ensuring that projects are established in line with funding body requirements and project plans; 
  • Monitoring and evaluating the delivery of support and services and participant outcomes using an evidence-based approach;
  • Providing support to the team (Horticulturalists, Bilingual Support Staff and volunteers) by identifying training and development needs and activities; and
  • Positively and constructively representing Multicultural Care in all opportunities, role modelling the Code of Conduct and actively supporting the mission, vision and values.

The successful candidate will hold a Diploma in Aged, Disability or Community Care (and/or equivalent qualification) and a demonstrated understanding of needs and issues of people with disabilities from CALD backgrounds and their carers. 

You will have demonstrated project management experience, as well as highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively across a culturally and demographically diverse group of people. In addition, you will need with the ability to work both in a team and autonomously and the ability to make immediate decisions when required. Effective time management is essential, as is the ability to effectively negotiate and solve-problems to ensure positive outcomes for clients.

While not essential, candidates with the ability to speak a second language, and hold or have the ability to obtain a First Aid Certificate will be highly regarded. Similarly, experience in the NDIS/Disability sector and established connections with community and providers in the target regions.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a National Police Check, and hold a current Driver's Licence with access to a reliable vehicle.
