Territorial Investments Ltd. started in 2011 with a single convenience store in Ulukhaktok, NT and has continued to grow and diversify their business ever since. They now operate in multiple locations with heavy machinery and vehicle rentals, accommodation rentals (both short and long term), maintenance and construction contracts and a second store located in Paulatuk, NT. Territorial Investments Ltd. is a small company with an entrepreneurial spirit and are currently looking for an employee who will take the company to the next level and continue to drive growth into new business ventures. 

About Ulukhaktok

Formerly known as Holman, this Inuvialuit (Inuit) community is tucked into an Arctic inlet on the west coast of Victoria Island, the ninth largest island in the world. It was founded as a Roman Catholic mission in the 1930s and is now described as the most scenic place in the North Western Territories. If you are a nature enthusiast, you will be right at home here with some of the best Arctic Char fishing in Canada, ample hunting opportunities and endless beautiful landscapes to photograph.

The community of Ulukhaktok has a preschool/daycare, a school (K-12), full health center, RCMP detachment, two grocery stores, and the most northerly 9 hole golf course on the North American continent. The Ulukhaktok people are also known for their welcoming and friendly personalities! Although Ulukhaktok is a fly in only Community, it does have frequent scheduled flights to the mainland.

About the Opportunity

Territorial Investments Ltd. is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Operations Manager to oversee our organization’s ongoing operations and ventures in the community of Ulukhaktok, Paulatuk, and Inuvik, NT.  

In this important leadership role, you will oversee several diverse business operations including two convenience stores, a growing real estate portfolio and various maintenance and construction contracts. No two days in this role are the same and you will be expected to wear many hats as you manage the financial and operational facets of the business to drive extensive and sustainable growth!

Your main responsibilities include but will not be limited to: 

  • Managing and organizing between 9 and 20 staff (depending on the season)
  • Designing and implementing business strategies, plans, proposals, and procedures
  • Planning and setting comprehensive goals for performance and growth
  • Leading employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication
  • Managing service employees and training them in the latest leadership and technical skills so they can better serve clients
  • Implementing loss prevention measures for all retail operations
  • Budgeting and allocating resources in line with growth goals and financial forecasts 
  • Coordinating the production of tenders or proposals for government contracts as they come up 
  • Mediating any problems that arise with partners in the community
  • Assisting the owners with various tasks as needed

The successful candidate will demonstrate an extremely strong business acumen and have a demonstratable ability in running all aspects of a business including HR, sales, and operations. Additionally, you will have a high attention to detail, leadership skills and be adept at problem-solving. Above all, you will have a very high level of written and verbal communication skills. Previous retail management experience or a degree in Business Managment is an asset but not essential.

This role would be best suited to an experienced and efficient leader with excellent people skills, business acumen, exemplary work ethic and a proven track record. The Ulukhaktok community is a very friendly and tight-knit community so our ideal candidate will also enjoy this aspect of life in a remote area.
