Community Restorative Centre - Changing Lives, Reducing Crime

Founded in 1951, Community Restorative Centre (CRC) is an independent community organisation with a broad funding base, dedicated to supporting people affected by the criminal justice system, particularly prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families and friends. Drawing skilled staff, management committees and volunteers from a range of relevant backgrounds, CRC is an incorporated association and a registered charity.

CRC is the lead provider of specialist throughcare, post-release, and reintegration programs for people transitioning from prison into the community in NSW. All CRC programs aim to reduce crime and break entrenched cycles of disadvantage, offending and imprisonment.

About the Opportunities

Community Restorative Centre (CRC) has multiple opportunities for Transition Case Workers to join their team in Broadway, NSW, on a full-time basis until June 2018, with possibility of extension subject to funding. These positions will require travel within Sydney Metro and Greater Western Sydney areas.

Transition Worker – Extended Reintegration Service

Reporting to the Manager of Transition Programs, your primary purpose will be to provide a broad range of transitional outreach casework services to men and women with a variety of needs, including those with mental illness, cognitive impairment, AOD issues, and homelessness, who are involved in the criminal justice system. 

Clients will have a range of offending histories, including violent offences, sex offences, and offences against children, and you will be engaging with clients up to 3 months prior to their release before providing intensive outreach support following their release. This will include:

  • Providing transitional support including counselling, provision of information and referral;
  • Developing their independent living skills, including maintaining accommodation;
  • Connecting them with community treatment and support services;
  • Developing their sense of community and belonging; and
  • Building positive relationships with both family and support workers.

Women’s Transition Worker

An opportunity also exists for a Women’s Transition Worker to work with women who are involved in the criminal justice system and who have multiple needs including mental illness, cognitive impairment, AOD issues and homelessness.

In addition to the primary functions mentioned above, this position will also be responsible for sourcing accommodation and liaising with social and community housing providers.

About You

To be successful in this role, you must possess relevant qualification and/or experience directly related to the provision of intensive support for people with complex support needs. Experience in outreach casework and case management is also essential, along with demonstrated experience working with people involved in the criminal justice system.

You will be required to have a sound knowledge of the NSW correctional system and the complex issues and barriers faced by people upon release, as well as a demonstrated understanding of working within a trauma informed framework. Established links to accommodation and support services in Greater Sydney Metro will be an asset to this role, and demonstrated administration and IT skills will be needed.

Knowledge of current Child Protection issues and legislation and demonstrated knowledge of issues relating to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and CALD communities would be highly regarded.

Please Note: A current Driver’s License and current NSW Working With Children Check are all required before commencing this position. You must also be willing to travel within Greater Sydney Metro on a daily basis as your work will be delivered on an outreach basis.
