The Pacific Islands Forum was founded in August 1971 and currently comprises 18 independent and self-governing states in the Pacific. Its Leaders meet annually to develop collective responses to regional issues.
The Forum’s administrative arm is the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, based in Suva, Fiji. It acts as the Secretariat for Forum-related events, implements decisions by the Leaders, facilitates the delivery of development assistance to member states, and undertakes the political and legal mandates of Forum meetings.
The Forum Secretariat is also mandated to coordinate the implementation of the Framework for Pacific Regionalism.

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Regional Security Adviser to join their organisation in Suva, Fiji.
Reporting to the Director Policy - Political Governance & Security, you will be responsible for providing policy advice on trends and threats relating to regional security issues in the region.
Your key accountabilities will include, but will not be limited to:
To be considered for this role you will hold an advanced degree in politics, law, security or another relevant discipline, along with an in-depth understanding of geo-political and political governance, security, legal and law enforcement issues within the pacific, and cultural issues and sensitivities relevant to the Pacific region.
Due to the nature of the role, it is essential you have significant experience in policy analysis and report writing, coupled with demonstrated success in a representational role in inter-governmental meetings and discussions. You will also be skilled in public speaking and advocacy activities.
With exceptional communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, you will be able to build and maintain strong relationships across diverse member countries and at all levels. Additionally, you'll have the ability to think on your feet, make intelligent decisions quickly, and respond effectively and efficiently to new situations that arise.
Although not essential, law enforcement experience would be beneficial.
To be eligible for this position, the applicant must be a national of one of the following Forum member countries*. Applicants must be willing to travel frequently.
This appointment carries a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. You will be well rewarded with an attractive salary package circa SDR 41,064 to SDR 46,198 per annum. This salary range was equivalent to FJD 116,791 to FJD 175,190. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.
