About the Opportunity

The Shire of Halls Creek now has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Tourism Manager to join its team in the Heart of Kimberley. 

Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, you will be responsible for ensuring the visitors to Halls Creek Travel & Tourism experience the highest standards of customer service and that the revenue of the Centre is maximised through sales. You'll also plan and manage the day-to-day operation of the centre, business systems and customer service, and take a hands-on role in sales and providing information to customers.

More specifically, some of your duties will include:

  • Leading the Halls Creek Tourism Centre in operational efficiency to meet customer service standards and to continuously improve customer service;
  • Promoting an increase in visitations, length of stay and visitor enjoyment of Halls Creek and surrounding region through effective tourism services and regional tourism promotion;
  • Ensuring procedures and services are in place to respond to tourism enquiries via face to face, telephone, social media, website and email;
  • Sourcing and providing destination advice, as well as accessing advice and interpreting product information;
  • Maximising merchandise sales and commission-based sales for Halls Creek and Kimberley tourism products;
  • Preparing and managing an annual budget for Halls Creek Travel & Tourism's operation; and
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive register of tourist facilities and services in Halls Creek, the Kimberley region and beyond.

Please Note: This role requires rostered and weekend work.

About You

The successful candidate will come from a managerial background, with cash handling experience and demonstrated business development, customer service, sales and/or marketing skills. Your ability to plan and strategise for both short and long-term will be essential to your success.

Although not essential, relevant qualifications in tourism, marketing, or a related field would be looked upon favourably. Skills in the area of public relations and/or media would also be beneficial to this role. Additionally, website maintenance and online sales experience will be highly regarded. Budget preparation and monitoring skills will also come in handy.

The Shire of Halls Creek is looking for a driven individual that will bring adaptability and innovation to this management role. You will be self-motivated, enjoy sales and your exceptional interpersonal skills will allow you to work collaboratively with, motivate and inspire your team. Although you will be leading others, it is key you also be the type of person who is willing to work hands on in this busy customer service environment.

It is important you be well organised and demonstrate the ability to use initiative when managing competing priorities. Problem solving skills will help you to identify opportunities for business improvement. Your coordination, planning and effective administration skills will see you meeting deadlines and producing accurate, efficient work.
