About the MST-CAN model

Multi-systemic Therapy for Child Abuse and Neglect (MST-CAN) is an evidence-based program designed to treat youth ages 6 to 17 and their families who have come to the attention of Child Protective Services due to physical abuse and/or neglect.

The MST-CAN model aims to:

  • Reduce entries into out-of-home care;
  • Increase exits from out-of-home care; and
  • Immediately respond to trauma, substance misuse and other underlying causes of child abuse and neglect.

About the Opportunity

Marathon Health now has an opportunity for a Supervisor/Senior Psychologist to lead their MST-CAN program team in Dubbo on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Child and Youth Mental Health Services Manager, you will bring your strong mental health clinical training and experience to lead a team of therapists, a case manager and a child psychiatrist delivering on the MST-CAN program. You will be responsible for building and maintaining stakeholder relationships and ensure a continuous referral stream, whilst ensuring customer satisfaction.

Day-to-day your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting weekly group supervision for the MST-CAN team to ensure adherence to the MST principles and MST analytic process;
  • Providing supportive and corrective feedback to clinicians to promote client outcomes through interventions such as enacting role play and practice, attending field visits with therapists, acting as a co-therapists in sessions, listening to audio tapes of clinician’s sessions, and providing feedback on clinician’s performance;
  • Providing direct clinical training to assure clinician competency in all clinical areas relating to the implementation of MST-CAN interventions; and
  • Ensuring appropriate documentation of clinical efforts to allow for peer and supervisory input, and to meet all reporting and communication needs of funding and referral sources.

About You

To be successful in this position you will hold a Masters in Psychology and demonstrated experience in child protection, family therapy, behavioural therapies and/or substance abuse interventions. Supervisory experience will be highly regarded, however if you don't have this but have the relevant qualifications and experience mentioned above, you are still encouraged to apply. 

MST or MST-CAN experience will be an advantage, however is not mandatory for the application process. 

Importantly, you will be a collaborative and supportive leader who will provide support, guidance, training and constructive feedback to your team as required to get the best results for your clients. You will be willing and able to work within the MST-CAN framework including meeting quality assurance measures and ensuring paperwork and reporting is delivered in a timely manner.
