About the MST-CAN model

Multi-systemic Therapy for Child Abuse and Neglect (MST-CAN) is an evidence-based program designed to treat youth ages 6 to 17 and their families who have come to the attention of Child Protective Services due to physical abuse and/or neglect.

The MST-CAN model aims to:

  • Reduce entries into out-of-home care;
  • Increase exits from out-of-home care; and
  • Immediately respond to trauma, substance misuse and other underlying causes of child abuse and neglect.

About the Opportunity

Marathon Health now has an opportunity for multiple Psychologists or Social Workers to work as Therapists within their MST-CAN delivery team. This is a full-time role based in Dubbo, with relocation assistance provided. 

Reporting to the MST-CAN Supervisor, you will be given a maximum caseload of 4 families, with which you will have multiple clinical contacts per week over a 6-9 month duration. You will work with the entire family in an effort to keep children with their families and help the family resolve clinical and practical concerns to ensure child safety.

About You

The ideal candidate for this position will hold a Masters in Psychology and at least 3 years experience in child protection, family therapy, behavioural therapies and/or substance abuse interventions. However - Marathon Health will also consider Registered Psychologists and/or Clinical Psychologists who don't hold a Masters Degree but have 6+ years experience in the above mentioned areas. Candidates with a Masters in Social Work are also encouraged to apply. 

Importantly, the ability to work autonomously and be open to observation and feedback, will be key to your success in this role. You will need to be willing and able to deliver home-based interventions and be comfortable working with families from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. 

Please note: A valid, open Driver's License is a requirement of this position. Offer of employment is subject to a Police Check and the obtainment of a Working with Children's Check.
