About the Lung Foundation Australia

Lung Foundation Australia is a national, not-for-profit organisation based in Brisbane. Their vision is to ensure that lung health is a priority for all in Australia and to promote lung health by:

  • Educating the community in lung health and early detection of lung disease;
  • Reducing lung disease in the community through patient and carer support;
  • Influencing public policy, through advocacy across all levels of government; and
  • Raising funds for medical and scientific research.

The Lung Foundation Australia National Office employs about 17 professional/administrative staff, supported by a team of dedicated volunteers. 

About the COPD National Program

Lung Foundation Australia manages the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) National Program, which aims to reduce the burden of COPD in Australia. 

The COPD Executive Committee and Coordinating Committee develop programs that:

  • Provide clinical support for the diagnosis and management of COPD, including the development of resources and training;
  • Promote community education and awareness;
  • Improve patient support and information;
  • Support research into COPD; and
  • Engage in government advocacy on behalf of those with COPD.

About the Opportunity

Lung Foundation Australia now has an opportunity for a General Manager to lead their COPD National Program team in Milton, Brisbane. This is a full-time maternity-leave contract position for up to 12 months, commencing early 2018. 

Reporting to the CEO and guided by a number of clinical committees, the General Manager will be accountable for the overall development and maintenance of the COPD programs. 

More specifically, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Developing and executing strategic plans in consultation with key stakeholders for the work of the COPD National Program;
  • Raising awareness of the burden of COPD with the government and submitting recommendations for government-based funding;
  • Managing budget allocations and developing annual budget and cash flow forecasts; and
  • Providing leadership to COPD staff to ensure consistency across COPD National Program projects.

To be considered for this role you will have extensive relevant experience in large-scale program and project management, ideally at a national level. You will have previous experience sitting on an Executive Team or operating in a senior, strategic capacity and as such, have a strong commercial acumen, stakeholder management and networking skills, as well as budgeting and contracts experience.

With five direct reports and multiple people and programs to oversee, people management skills will be critical to your success in this role. You will be constantly on the ground, working with your teams, providing guidance and direction and will be comfortable to chip in and assist with deliverables if required

A clinical background is not required for this role - candidates outside of the health sector with the relevant program experience from a corporate or government background, are encouraged to apply. Please note: This position will require regular intra and inter-state travel.
