About the Opportunity

VACFSS has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Communications Public Relations Associate to join our team in Vancouver, BC.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, Quality Assurance and Communications, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the communication plan for VACFSS.

Specifically, you will be performing and overseeing the functions of the Communications unit including internal and external communications, website design and maintenance, intranet development and maintenance, public relations and community liaison. This position requires frequent interaction with staff at all levels throughout the Agency and requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills to effectively prioritize and manage time sensitive assignments.

Key duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Developing communication strategies, plans, objectives, methods and procedures
  • Managing the production of written communications materials and products
  • Organizing all promotional material for internal and external audiences for events, conferences and workshops
  • Managing, creating and editing website content through consultation with Program Managers and CEO
  • Providing senior level specialist advice and coaching to President, Board, CEO and all levels of management and staff for complex media issues as well as routine communications
  • Being the lead person on Crisis Communication for VACFSS to ensure public and partner’s trust in the agency is preserved
  • Managing, creating and editing content for the VACFSS website through WordPress as a CMS
  • Managing all social media related activities
  • Coaching and managing a communications assistant
  • Managing all event planning including workshops, AGM and our foster parent appreciation dinner
  • Researching, developing, organizing and implementing all fundraising programs and opportunities

For this role, you will have a post-secondary degree in Arts, Commerce or Business with a focus in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations, with specialized training in graphic design, web development and marketing. The successful candidate will be proficient in the utilization of the following computer programs: HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Acrobat, and all components of Microsoft Office.

You will also have at least five (5) years of experience in the field of organizational communications working with Aboriginal people.

In addition, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information within defined agency guidelines
  • Well developed planning, organizing, controlling and administrative skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellence in originating and preparing written material such as issue briefings, manuals as well as layouts
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a safe and reliable vehicle

This role is well suited to a highly organized and self-motivated team player who is client focused and performance and results-driven. As someone who has the ability to follow through on responsibilities with limited supervision, you will be able to take responsibility for all aspects of VACFSS internal and external communications. 

Capable of motivating, supporting and directing people toward the achievement of goals, you will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and enjoy working collaboratively with people at all levels of the organization.
